A woman who tried to steal a handbag from a motel reception and then wrestled the owner when they stopped her was sentenced to jail and convicted for a string of offences.
Monica Lee Doolan, 32, of Edwin Street, Dubbo, was sentenced in Orange Local Court recently.
Doolan was charged with break and enter for trying to steal the handbag from the Metropolitan Hotel on January 5, 2018, and magistrate David Day sentenced her to 12 months jail with a nine-month non-parole period until June 2, 2020.
According to police, she entered the motel reception area about 4.16pm and was captured on CCTV taking the handbag from an employee area before being confronted by its owner.
When the bag's owner tried to take it back, Doolan wrestled the other woman but the owner got her bag back and Doolan's identity was confirmed by DNA from a can of drink she had been drinking from and threw at the other woman.
Doolan was also sentenced to 12 months jail with a nine-month non-parole period from November 4 to August 3 for stealing a bottle of Jim Beam bourbon from Liquorland in Orange on September 2.
She was also sentenced for several Dubbo offences including taking a mobile phone into a cell at Dubbo Court House.
Doolan posted photos of her cell and shared the phone with another inmate who used it to update her social media on July 7.
She was given a 12-month Community Correction order with conditions she abstain from drugs and undertake rehabilitation and treatment.
Doolan was also given an 18-month Intensive Correction Order, which is a community-based custodial sentence, for a break and enter into a shed on June 24 when she stole a six-pack of beer, various tools and a speaker.
For having possession of stolen bank cards and other cards she was given a six-month ICO with 30 hours of community service. She was also given a 12-month ICO for breaching a previous CCO she was given for larceny.
The community-based sentences will start on her release from jail.
