It's the first two-day game of the BOIDC 2020-21 season and it will be the first time Powell has opposed Kinross since switching to the red and blacks this season.
Rose has been in the same position and says it can be beneficial.
"In my first year out of Kinross it was a bit of an advantage to know the ins and outs of every Kinross batsman and bowler," he said.
"It's like a trial match."
Rose said knowing how well the opposition performed meant he had a gauge on which to base his own performance.
"If you perform well it means that you're on the track to go forward," he said.
Rose said he would have a word with Powell as part of the regular pre-game chat.
Max, mate, you've played with these guys. You know their strengths and weaknesses.

"[It will be] Max, mate, you've played with these guys. You know their strengths and weaknesses," he said.
Rose said Powell should be able to use that inside knowledge to his benefit.
Powell topscored with 56, including four boundaries, for Centrals against Bathurst City in round two, his best score of the early season.
Centrals and Kinross go into the first two-day game without a win from their two games in the first three rounds.
Rose said there was a different mindset to playing two-dayers which they were hoping to put to full use against the students.
It's eighth up against ninth but Rose says Centrals can take some positives from their early season performances.
In the first round one-dayer they made only 102.
But, he said, the positive was the bowling performance which took Cavaliers to the wire picking up eight wickets before Cavs reached a winning total.
"It was an amazing effort by our bowling team," he said.
In the second game, with Powell leading from the front as opener they hit an improved 9-161 off their 40 overs. However Bathurst City, with Mark Day in fine touch scoring 83 not out, was too good and reached the total with seven wickets and nearly eight overs to spare.
Kinross was involved in a thriller in the opening round.
After bowling out Rugby Union for 154 inside the allotted 40 overs Kinross went within two runs of victory.
Kinross' best included David Hunter hitting 63 and Nelson Sheppard claiming 3-20 off eight overs.
In round two they made an impressive 8/191 but could not contain the big hitting strike force of CYMS' top order who marched past to victory in the 35th over.
