Officers from Central West Police District are investigating the shooting and have established a crime scene after finding a sawn-off side-by-side double-barrel shotgun within the garage of the house where the man was found.
Police attended a home at Porter Street, Parkes, about 8.10am on Thursday and found the man who had a gunshot wound to his right hand.
The 25-year-old was taken to Parkes hospital before being flown to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.
Inquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
