The small cannon was found in bushland, secreted by vegetation after investigators attended a nearby rural property on Eulalie Lane, Walmer south west of Wellington on Friday.
The cannon was seized due to a police operation targeting Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang members and their associates .
Police from the State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad's Strike Force Raptor have been working with the Orana Police District on the issue.

On March 2, 2017, police from Strike Force Raptor and Orana Local Area Command has served a Firearm Prohibition Order on a 64-year-old man at a rural property on Minore Road, Minore, and allegedly located 24 firearms.
The 64-year-old man was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with a total of 61 offences and remains before the courts.
Further information then led police to the Walmer property on Friday and investigations are continuing.
Strike Force Raptor was established by State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad in 2009.
It is a proactive and high-impact operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs and any associated criminal enterprises.
