The family of seven moved to the region from Pennsylvania to start the Lachlan Valley Mennonite Church, but most people would know them for their stall at the Orange Farmers Market.

During Saturday's market at the showgrounds, the usually large family enterprise was reduced to just three, who took time out from their busy home-baked goods trade to answer some queries.

Mr Eberly's father Brad Eberly is the pastor of the church, which is attended by eight other families who have all migrated here from the United States.

The religion is based on the beliefs of Christianity, but with a more literal interpretation of the bible.

Mr Eberly said their practice teaches that there is a clear distinct between what is right and wrong.

The Mennonite's believe in 'non resistance' which in practical terms would mean not going to war.

He said while they are often compared to the Amish, they do drive cars and they do use technology for practical purposes.

Mr Everly said while social media is banned and internet use is fairly strictly limited, the family does go online to buy goods for their home and business.

In the three years since the family moved to Canowindra to establish a self-sufficient lifestyle on their 11 acres, Mr Everly said they have been welcomed into the community.

"People are curious and they ask questions, which is fine - we're always happy to answer," he said.
