As of 7.30am the Bureau of Meteorology hadn’t issued an official warning, but the forecast indicated wild weather for Orange, the Central West, and large parts of the state.
According to the BoM’s graphic, Orange sits squarely in a north-south running band of NSW which is categorised as “severe thunderstorms likely”, along with other Central West centres including Bathurst, Dubbo, Parkes and Mudgee.
The seven-day forecast at www.weatherzone.com.au pointed to “a thunderstorm likely, particularly in the afternoon and evening, when storms may also be severe”.
According to weatherzone, there was an 80 per cent chance of up 20 millimetres of rain in the city, with winds of almost 30km/h likely as well.
The predicted top temperature is 24 degrees.
Despite the ongoing drought the forecast rain is not good news for everyone, with Orange’s cherry growers fearing the damage the almost certain moisture could cause to their crops.
