A male attendant at the Bathurst Road BP was left “shaken” but unharmed after the armed hold-up, which occurred at 12.15am.
Central West Police District Chief Inspector Peter Atkins said the brazen robber fled the scene with cash and was still to be apprehended.
“A man entered the store and threatened the assistant with a knife and demanded money,” he said.
“He did get some money and then left the store.
“The male attendant was shaken but nobody was injured.”
The service station was cordoned off and closed to the public on Friday morning, while detectives worked to piece together the crime, before being reopened.
“A crime scene has been established and a forensic team will come in,” Chief Inspector Atkins said.
He appealed for public assistance to help catch the culprit, asking for people who were nearby at the time and may have seen anything to contact Orange police or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
“We’re looking for anyone who might have been in the area and seen a man leave in a car or on foot,” he said.
Chief Inspector Atkins said the man they are looking for is described as caucasian and around six foot, or 182 centimetres, tall.
At this stage Central West Police District could not say if the crime was connected to any other incidents.
