While it was a day for the students, with food, music, yoga and mental health advice, the rescue dogs from the RSPCA quickly became the centre of attention.
The largest pooch to lap up all the attention was Wags, a great dane crossed shar pei, who with, tiny mate Alvin, a pomeranian cross, quickly had a strong attraction for the students.
Student Natasha Sutton said they had originally suggested asking students to bring their own dogs to the event.
However she said it was later changed to an adoption awareness day where the RSPCA were invited to bring along dogs seeking new homes.
“All the dogs need homes. Hopefully people can pat them and interact with them,” she said.
Year 12 advisor Kylie Winslade said there were 130 HSC students at Orange High School this year.
Mrs Winslade said the well-being day activities were aimed at giving the students some relaxation before the trial exams begin next week.
She said the activities included youth mental health support group Headspace having a stall, student musicians plus food.
“The staff are also running a yoga session and have put some things on for the students,” she said.
This year’s HSC written exams start on Thursday October 18 with the English papers.
Exams finish on Friday November 9, day 17 of the exams, with Design and Technology and finally Drama.
The HSC results will be released on Thursday December 13.
