Maria Bargwanna was named as the new Inner Wheel Club District Chairwoman at the Duntryleague Club, taking over from Blayney’s Janet Power.
Mrs Bargwanna has been a member of the Orange branch of the club since 2004 and will now oversee operations for eight Inner Wheels in the region.
The new role will see her liaise with district clubs to promote the charitable work the female friendship group supports.
This year alone the Orange branch has raised money for Ronald McDonald House, palliative care and the Salvation Army through raffles, social events and more.
Mrs Bargwanna said in addition to the clubs charity work Inner Wheel’s most important role was providing friendship for members.
Orange’s newly-elected president Gail Pringle said when her husband died 14 years ago it was the club which saw her through.
“I couldn’t have done it without the club,” she said.
“The moral support meant so much.”
The new district chair said her goal was to increase numbers and start a new club in the district.
“We are looking very seriously at Parkes,” Mrs Bargwanna revealed.
