The youngster's grandfather Pat Gersbach played first grade for CYMS, as did Liam's uncle Damian Gersbach, who also held the role of club captain. Not only that but his father Michael Curran is the current second grade captain.
All of this to say that Liam has had a lot to live up to in his still young career.
This season the teenager has gotten the chance to show what he is made of, having made his first grade debut back on November 20 against St Pat's Old Boys.
"It was a pretty special day. My pop came down and he played first grade in the '60s, so he came down to hand me my cap which was really good," Curran said.
"Heaps of my family were there and it was just special.
"Everyone has been pretty supportive this year and I think there's a pretty good vibe around the club and everyone seems to be enjoying things."
He bowled just the three overs that day and finished with figures of 1-29 in what was a 136 run loss.
"It is a bit harder than what I imagined," he added.
"There's a pretty big gap between first and second grade, but it's definitely a good challenge.
"I don't have too much of a role at the moment, so I'd also like to prove myself throughout the season. It is different from bowling eight or so overs a game to just two or three. It is a bit of a challenge but I enjoy it."
That performance, coupled with his work at training, has secured him another shot in the first grade side set to take on an undefeated Cavaliers at Wade Park on Saturday.
"I know that their team is pretty strong, but I don't know too many of their players," he said.
"It should be a pretty tough match."
This round was meant to mark the first of the season's two-day matches, but rain washed out day one which has meant that all Bathurst and Orange Inter District Cricket games on Saturday will be 40 over matches.
The other games include Centrals v Centennials (Riawena), St Pat's v Orange City (George Park 1), Bathurst City v O.R.C (Morse Park 1) and City Colts v Rugby Union (Loco Oval).
