Bathurst residents urged to get tested as second COVID-positive case confirmed

The case was confirmed on social media on Friday evening by Bathurst MP Paul Toole while school principal Ken Barwick has also posted on the school's Facebook page that "a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID-19".

But Mr Barwick has stressed to parents, staff and students that the person had not been in contact with anyone from the school in recent days.

"NSW Health promptly assessed the situation and advised that there was no impact to our school, the person has not had any close contact with our staff or students and was not involved with any school activities," the post reads.

"This is a personal health matter and our thoughts are with the family."

Mr Toole also broke the news of Bathurst's first COVID-positive case on Friday afternoon, with that person believed to be in isolation.

That announcement came after Western NSW Local Health District chief executive CEO Scott McLachlan revealed during his daily briefing with journalists that traces of COVID had been detected in Bathurst sewage for the fourth time in the past fortnight.

Mr Toole urged Bathurst residents to come forward for testing with even the most mild of symptoms.

"NSW Health reminds anyone who has been unwell or if you develop any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics," he said.

"Let's work together Bathurst to make sure these case numbers don't grow - by following the rules and staying home as much as possible, you're playing a critical part in the safety of your friends, family and neighbours."
