Western NSW Local Health District has not yet commented on the case and it has not been included in the latest figures from NSW Health.
There was no mention of the case during health district CEO Scott McLachlan's daily briefing this afternoon but he did confirm traces of COVID had been detected in Bathurst sewage for the fourth time in the past fortnight.
However, Australian Community Media understands the information included in a post on Bathurst MP Paul Toole's Facebook page has been confirmed by health authorities and more details may be made available later.
"Not the news any of us want to hear but NSW Health has confirmed a positive case of COVID-19 in Bathurst this afternoon," Mr Toole's post reads.
"Health is contacting close contacts of this person to ensure they isolate immediately and get tested."
Bathurst mayor Ian North also confirmed the case.
He urged the Bathurst community to remain calm and get tested with even the mildest of symptoms.
"I can't stress enough how important it is that if you have even the mildest of cold or flu-like symptoms, go and get tested and isolate until you get your results," he said.
"Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of taste or smell.
"Please remember to follow the public health orders currently in place and to get tested if you are feeling unwell."
