The Rapid Response Vehicle Sanitisation Station was set up for all point-to-point transport vehicles including taxis, hire and ride-share vehicles, community transport, government fleet and emergency service vehicles.
Transport for NSW and the Point to Point Transport Commission launched the sanitisation vehicle to service various locations in the Orange, Blayney and Cabonne council areas.
It provided up to two complimentary sanitisations per vehicles, per day, performed by staff on-site.
The sanitisation includes disinfecting high-touch point areas outside and inside the vehicle including door handles, boot handle, window controls, steering wheel, visors, centre console, gear stick, handbrake, grip handles, glove box, dashboard, seatbelts, seats, headrests, mobile phone holders, cup holders, fuel door, fuel cap, meters and payment equipment.
Taxi Cabs of Orange Co-Operative network administrator Renee Jennings said the Point to Point Commission has been supportive since the latest COVID case.
Mrs Jennings said there is already a permanent sanitisation station at Dubbo but she put in a request last week to get one in Orange.
"It's great to have this service out here, it's just that bit of additional help," she said.
"They will clean down the most touched areas in the car."
She said this service is in addition to the sanitisation undertaken by taxi owners who have been purchasing their own alcohol wipes and hand sanitiser.
"They wipe down all the high touch areas after each passenger and they are asking passengers to sit in the backseat," Mrs Jennings said.
"Each car has its own individual QR code as well."
In Orange, the sanisation stations were at Orange Railway Station; Lords Place taxi rank, Summer Street bus stop, Woolworths Orange, Coles Orange, Orange Post Office, and Woolworths North Orange between 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
As well as the sanitisation service, each ride-share vehicle was also entitled to five masks per visit for use for each driver or their passengers.
However, the Rapid Response Vehicle Sanitisation Station is to return to Sydney at the end of stay-at-home orders in the Central West, which was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon to end at 12.01am Wednesday.
For those who live outside of Orange, all regional service providers will be entitled to complimentary packs of 50 disposable face masks, which are available online via an industry portal.
