Giffin was one of a host of players who made their Mid West League league tag debut for CSU at Diggings Oval and she shapes as a more than handy recruit for the students.
"Bek Giffin, she's one of the new players coming through and she was really good, she plays in the middle," CSU coach Jacob Watkin said.
But Giffin was not the only new face in the Mungals line-up that impressed and it has Watkin excited about what could come.
"Our fullback Brooke Morgan, she was unreal. She was putting people on skates all day," he said.
"Sophie Tilburg was good at dummy half, our halves Georgia Woodhouse and Sam Hurst were really good, the led the team around well all day. That's a brand new combination.
"We have a lot of really promising signs going forward because we do have a lot of really talented attacking players."
While CSU made the final of the Mid West pre-season league tag competition, Watkin was unsure what to expect on Saturday given the new combinations still need time to develop.
The first half saw CSU and the Warriors score a try apiece and while the Mungals went on to win, Watkin said it was a hard-earned result.
"It was a real arm-wrestle really which you don't normally get in league tag. It was back and forwards the whole first half, then we scored two tries in the second half and pulled away," he said.
"It's great for a new team to show that they can grind out a win. This was a game that wasn't free-flowing, so it's nice to know we can win like that for the future.
"The girls stuck to the structure really well."

Watkin also praised the beaten Warriors side and feels they will be a threat as the season unfolds.
"They were really good, they've got a lot of old Orange Barbarians girls and they were a skilful team to start off. Mixing the two together, they're going to be really good this year I think," he said.
