The Orange Regional Conservatorium (ORC) will present the first concert of the 2021 Chamber Music Series this Friday, March 19, from 6.30pm.
Featuring the professional musicians on staff at the ORC, the series will travel from East to West across the routes of the old Silk Road, celebrating the music of the cultures and countries encountered along the way.
The first concert, titled 'From the East' will begin its journey music from Japan and China, then moving westward through Russia and the Steppes.
The series is also a celebration the diverse and multicultural staff of the ORC, Elina Yasumoto and Lujia Zhang will explore their heritage while performing pieces from Japan and China, respectively.
Laith Ismail, originally from Iraq, will perform music from Russia, where he trained for many years as an Oboist and Conductor.
"We have such a rich cultural diversity here at the Conservatorium and this is the perfect setting to explore that while also challenging ourselves musically," he said.
Ticket sales are already exceeding expectations after the year began with the 2021 Program Launch selling out well ahead of time.
All ORC school-aged students receive free entry to Conservatorium concerts.
