Kendall Graham-Chapman lives next to a nature reserve in Valencia Drive, which is often the hot spot for kids to congregate for a game of cricket or footy.

With the recent spate of rain that hit the city, the grass the boys usually play on went up past shin height.

"So because of that, the boys moved out onto the road which obviously isn't safe," Mrs Graham-Chapman said.

"So a neighbour across the road saw them and said it's not safe and decided to mow them in a cricket pitch.

"He jumped on his ride-on and came across and mowed a pitch and a bit of an outfield and they got back to playing."

That neighbour was Chris Oldroyd, who said it was the least he could do.

"It was just a simple thing," he said.

"I saw them playing down the road, and it's quiet now but you see heaps of cars. I was doing the lawn anyway, so as long as the parents were fine with me driving my lawnmower up the driveway, I thought what could it hurt?

"The local kids are doing a good job of keeping out of trouble, so what does it hurt to give it a mow."

Mrs Graham-Chapman added that her son Spencer and his mates were all very appreciative of the good deed.

"They all came in so excited about the man across the road who mowed them in their cricket pitch, they were rapped," she said.

"He doesn't go to school with half the boys here, but they're all mates after school and on the weekend.

"It's a really great way to make friends."
