Adam James Soar, 27, of Blayney, was driving a Mitsubishi station wagon east on Bathurst Road when police decided to stop him for random testing about 2.25am on December 20.
Soar was breath tested and said, "was I over? If I was, I wouldn't be over by much".
He returned a high-range reading of 0.186 on analysis at Orange Police Station.
Magistrate David Day convicted Soar and placed him on a 12-month community correction order, he fined him $220 and disqualified his driver's licence for six months.
"It's not a matter of counting your drinks, if you felt affected you shouldn't drive," Mr Day said.
