Orange City Council crews have been switched from road building to road patching this week to fill potholes across the city.
Cabonne Council will also be working to fix pothole damage around Mount Canobolas which was still closed to traffic on Tuesday due to snow and icy conditions last weekend.
Orange City Council spokesman Allan Reeder said there was an extra four-five crews working on pothole repairs this week.
He said after relatively low numbers of potholes in drier weather pothole maintenance was "stepping up again" since recent rain.
"When road crews are not able to work on major upgrades or gravel road maintenance because of wet conditions, they're re-assigned to road maintenance," he said.
Machines and shovels are brought into use.
"As well as the large truck-mounted jet-patcher which repairs pot holes by using hot bitumen and finer gravel to repair thinner potholes, council also repairs deeper potholes by shovelling the larger gravel and cold-mix bitumen from the back of a truck into the potholes," he said.
Mr Reeder said the public could report potholes on the Report It page of council's website.
A Cabonne Council spokeswoman said Old Canobolas Road had suffered pothole damage from the wet weather.
She said council staff were waiting for conditions to improve before they could assess other mountain access roads.
