Emergency services received a triple-0 call at 11.55pm on Wednesday that a car parked on Richards Place, at the edge of Cootes Park, was on fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW Orange Station Officer Matthew Jeffery said the station wagon was well alight when crews arrived on scene.

"It was extinguished within 25 minutes," he said.

"There was nothing else under threat because it was on the edge of the park."

Station Officer Jeffery said the vehicle had no number plates on it and it had been abandoned there some time ago.

Police were also called to the scene and the incident is now under investigation.
