About 50 people attended St Barnabas church on Dora Street on Friday for the 30th anniversary of National Police Remembrance Day.
The nation-wide services commemorated the service of 173 members of the NSW Police Force who lost their lives in the line of duty through injury since the formation of the police force in 1962.
Candles were lit for each officers who lost their lives over the past 12 months.
During his address, Central West Police District Acting Superintendent Peter Atkins said it was important to remember those who had served and laid down their lives.
Police chaplain reverend Gary Neville spoke about his first time wearing the police uniform for the first time and realising it meant more than just an item of clothing.
"The uniform I was wearing was not about me today ... it represented people who have worn it over many years before."
