David Wayne Hodge, 55, of Obley Street, Cumnock, was caught driving an unregistered Ford ute with Queensland number plates on the Mitchell Highway about 10km east of Molong about 11am.
When questioned by police about why he was driving an unregistered vehicle he said, "how did you find out and I knew it would only be a matter of time before I got caught again".
Hodge was disqualified from driving from July 2017 to July 2022 and because the ute's registration expired in 1995 police removed the number plates to prevent further offending.
According to police, Hodge had an extensive criminal history with 18 prior charges, mostly for traffic related offences.
Magistrate David Day said the June 27 offence was his third driving while disqualified charge.
He was fined $1650 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
