COUNCILLORS were at pains to stress Orange has more than six months of water left after media reports on the effect of the drought across the state.
They referred to a story on radio media earlier this week, which said bigger centres like Tamworth and Orange had as little as six to 12 months of water left.
Following meetings this week and a request for a retraction, mayor Reg Kidd said the true situation was 12-18 months' supply, assuming no rain fell.
Three residents addressed the council about a six-lot housing development in Lily Pilly Place, off William Maker Drive, which they argued would make them feel as though they were living "in a fishbowl".
Councillors voted to defer it to ask the developer to consider downsizing the design, although councillor Tony Mileto joked, at $720,000 for six dwellings, the developer should be asked to tender for the Robertson Park toilet project.
