Among the dog lovers who attended the community run event was Cindy Culverson who walked her father’s dog Monty.
“We’ve been doing the Relay for Life, next year is our 10th year,” she said.
“We had a couple of friends who had cancer, we were sitting around one day and thought lets come and do it.
“We thought we would come and do the [Bark for Life], we need more dog events so this is awesome.”

Bark for Life committee chairwoman Emily Scott said Sunday’s outing was the first Bark for Life in Orange and the Cancer Council is hoping to make it an annual event.
“It’s an event that promotes those qualities that dogs have that help their owner through their cancer experience as well,” Miss Scott said.
“All the money today goes back to the Cancer Council for research and different programs as well.
Cancer Council community relations coordinator Brendon Argyle said because it was only the first year they wanted to keep it small so they could see how things went.
He said about 30 dogs took part in the event and about $1500 was raised through registrations and the sale of dog bandannas.
“We learnt a lot of lessons, it was a very popular well-supported event,” Mr Argyle said.
Cancer Council committee member Tracey Press brought Murphy, her wolfhound cross labrador.
“Cancer touches so many people and nearly everybody I know has been touched by cancer or has cancer,” she said.
Cancer Council manager Ricky Puata also brought his dogs along to participate.
For Jasmine Smart the event was an opportunity to let people know the Animal Welfare League is now in Orange and she brought along cattle-cross Buddy and border collie Mate, two of the dogs that up for adoption.
