An auction of red-themed goods will be one of the key side-events at this year’s Redhead Hunt4HD 2018.
Organiser Rachael Brooking said the auction was aiming to raise money for Huntington’s NSW/ACT which assists people with the disease and their families.
She said the auction would feature four artworks, including one by Orange artist Larissa Blake, the fridge donated by Betta Home Living, return air tickets to Brisbane or Melbourne from Fly Corporate, jewellery from Michael Hill Orange and more.
The event is on from 10am-4pm with entry via a gold coin donation.
It is aiming to break the world record for most number of red heads in one place and the count will be on at 2pm.
The target is 1672 after 769 were counted last year.
“All redheads are asked to wear a white top,” Mrs Brooking said.
And she said the weather forecast was looking good for the ginger army set to descend on the venue.
“It’s going to be about 15 degrees and cooler, it’s shaping up to be good weather for redheads,” she said.
Guests at the event include X-Factor TV show redhead duo Brentwood, music from the band Pengopuss with Canberra breakfast radio host Kristen Henry to be the master of ceremonies.
Mrs Brooking said the $5 entry children’s entertainment area would be have four jumping castles, tenpin bowling, crafts, face-painting and more.
“It’s much bigger than it was last year, it’s family entertainment at a good price,” she said.
There will also be a red beard competition where the best and bushiest will be judged.
“You can have any hair colour but the beard has to be red,” she said.
Cafes and hairdressers around Orange have been encouraged to join in the spirit of the day by offering red-themed products.
This year’s event will also have winery tours on Saturday and Sunday aboard a red double decker bus. The tours cost $69 and include lunch.
