Upon hearing earlier in the week that the weather forecasters were predicting snow on Sunday, the boy could barely contain himself.
Come Saturday night his excitement had reached fever pitch, and after carefully laying out his beanie, gloves, gumboots and coat, he fell asleep.
For a time, at least.

The youngster woke seven times through the night – at roughly one-hour intervals – to part his curtains and check whether the snow he had been promised had arrived.
Thoughtfully, he woke his parents each time to keep them abreast of the disappointing news that, thus far, the white stuff had not settled on their garden.
By 6am, with the reality of a pretty standard day at home had set in in the same way the snow hadn’t, and the boy was demanding a car trip to track down some white stuff.
Thankfully for all involved, the higher ground around The Pinnacle had a satisfactory covering.
