Ash Morrow from the Rural Fire Service North West Orange Brigade was awarded the Young Volunteer of the Year Award for those aged between 16 and 25.
Mr Morrow was among a group of young men and women whose achievements as cadets and volunteers in the NSW emergency services have stood out.
Member of the Legislative Council Rick Colless said it was fitting to recognise the important role played by young people in these roles.
“Mr Morrow, and his peers, represent the future of emergency volunteering, and I wish him and all the other young volunteers well in their future endeavours as they help protect their communities in floods, fires, storms and other emergencies,” Mr Colless said.
“I congratulate Mr Morrow on his achievement and hope that he continues to serve his community in his capacity as a volunteer for many years to come.”
NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said it was great to see committed and engaged young people in emergency services.
“The interest and enthusiasm of young members in the NSW RFS is significant and these awards acknowledge their hard work and genuine desire to contribute and give back to their local community,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.
There are more than 73,000 volunteers in the NSW Rural Fire Service.
