An Allity Aged Care spokesperson said the Gosling Creek community and the family were notified of the death of the resident on Monday.
The resident wasn't vaccinated and had underlying health issues, the spokesperson confirmed.
"As we know, the devastating nature of the virus is that it is known to increase the severity of any illness," the spokesperson added.
Four residents at the facility have tested positive to the virus and are being cared for at the facility by the medical and nursing staff from the Orange Local Health Service.
The families of the four residents are also receiving daily calls and updates on their family members.
"They are receiving the best possible care," the spokesperson said.
In total, eight staff have tested positive and are self-isolating.
There have been no additional positive cases among residents since the last testing round on Friday.
In the latest reporting period to 8pm on Sunday night, 11 new cases were recorded in Orange. There was 20 across the Western NSW Local Health District. That figure bumps our total of new cases in December to 96.
The Western NSW LHD updated on Monday indicates there's two people in hospital with COVID-19 in the district. It won't confirm what hospital those patients are in.
The Allity Aged Care spokesperson said the facility continues to work closely with local health authorities, who are providing direction and guidance to keep their community as safe as possible.
