Three players found half centuries for the Warriors over nearly 80 overs of play to help put them in a strong position going into next Saturday's second day.
Blake Weymouth (66), Troy O'Keeffe (54) and Angus Cornish (52) all got to raise the bat following their measured performances at the crease, while Shaun Grenfell and Brett Causer (both 42) each played at a higher tempo on their way to solid scores.
Warriors had four separate 50 run partnerships throughout their innings.
Redbacks' returning duo of Tom Lynch (3-77 off 19 overs) and Blake Kreuzberger (3-45 off 10 overs) were the pick of the bowlers.
Fellow junior player Liam Cain (2-62) also claimed multiple wickets.
Redbacks did manage to take the last four wickets at the cost of 19 runs to finish their day on a more positive note.
It was a five wicket haul of mixed emotions for City Colts' Nick Babcock, whose individual highlight came during a Centrals innings that got away from his team at Loco Oval on Saturday.
Babcock's super figures of 5-36 from 23 overs in the BOIDC two-day clash helped Colts have the visiting Centrals all out for 205.
While that's still an excellent result for the hosts at the small ground it could have been even better, since they had Centrals in a nightmare position of 7-80 at one stage.
Darryl Kennewell resurrected the Centrals innings with a quick knock of 73, batting at number nine, and was supported by an ultra-patient innings from Kurt Gander (43 from 167 deliveries).
Babcock, who finished with six maidens, said Centrals' rotation of strike helped put an end to the bleeding of wickets.
"We were doing well with them seven for 80-odd. He came out after lunch and just went berserk and started hitting everyone, except for me, since I kept bowling to the other batsman most of the time," he said.
"[Kennewell] would be taking a single off me and then the next five would be dot balls. He'd then be getting boundaries away from the other end in the next over.
"It was after I bowled from the other end that he finally ended up hitting one down the throat of mid-off on the boundary, so that change worked well for us.
"There was a little bit in the pitch for everyone. There was a bit of bounce and plenty of turn for me, which certainly helps."
Babcock has added a handy all-round option for Colts after moving to the city this year.
"I came over from the Central Coast, from the Northern Power Cricket Club. The move's been good. My partner got work out here, and she's got family in Bathurst, Oberon and Mandurama," he said.
"Cricket's been good. Obviously we'd like to find a bit more success as a team but they're a great bunch of blokes who have welcomed me with open arms."
Colin Starkey (25) and opener Cam Roberts (16) were the only other Centrals players to hit double figures during Babcock's dismantling of the middle order.
Pat Hill (2-20) and Dave Henderson (2-34) were the other multiple wicket takers for Colts, with Mark Sheather (1-46) taking the wicket of Roberts.
On the smaller Loco Oval the Colts will still be favoured to get the chase done next Saturday, especially with the likes of big hitters Henry Shoemark and Josh Toole set to come back into the lineup.
CYMS have already claimed first innings points over Rugby Union following one of the most surprising days of the BOIDC so far this season.
Led by a five-wicket haul from Tom Wilson (5-18), CYMS rolled Rugby for just 77 runs before the visitors made their way to 4-140 at stumps at Morse Park 1.
Wilson, who started his season in Orange District Cricket Association second grade, may have now earned himself a stay in the top CYMS side thanks to Saturday's efforts.
Jack Cale (2-13) and Rory Daburger (2-18) also had great days out with the ball.
Cale had openers Sam Macpherson (0) and Tyler Newton (1) out in quick succession, in what would be a sign of the day to come for Rugby.
Imran Qureshi (20 from 85) and Lachlan Coad (16 from 57) tried to create some semblance of a competitive target during their stays at the crease, before they each fell to Wilson.
Jeremy Thackray (22) top scored for Rugby with a quick burst of boundaries at the end of the innings.
CYMS got off to an awkward start at 2-22 but thanks to another promoted second grade player, Ben Bartlett (46), they quickly approached the target.
The Orange men will resume next week with Dave Neil (35 not out) and Mac Webster (28 not out) on an unbeaten 68 run partnership.
The previously unbeaten Rugby side will now go into preservation mode next Saturday as they try to stop CYMS from claiming maximum points.
This was the first time the green and golds had claimed victory this season.
Quick wickets for Centennials Bulls this Saturday could get them their first win of the season while a hot start with the bat may see ORC continue their recent run of positive results.
Tigers will resume at 3-70 chasing Centennials' 150 when they come back to George Park 1.
Centennials Bulls skipper Kyle Aubin led the way with the bat with 58 at the opener's spot.
He and Tom Siede (23) put on a 68 run partnership for the second wicket but from there the good moments for the Bulls became harder to find.
Pat McCleary (49) was the only other player in double figures, with seven Bulls players dismissed for five or less.
Wayne Sellers (3-30) and Hugh Parsons (3-32) were the pick of the ORC bowlers, with Hamish Siegert (2-20) the next best.
Cavaliers posted 8-311 in their match against St Pat's Old Boys. Click here to read the full story.
