Thirty-three cases of the virus have been detected across the Cabonne Local Government Area since November 30, and with election day being Saturday, December 4, extra COVID-safe measures are being looked at to prevent further spread.

All NSW venues will have the state's COVID-19 Safety Plan implemented on Election Day for voters attending in-person. This means that the use of face masks - unless exempted - and individual checking in and out of venues are conditions of entry, with the usual social distancing measures of 1.5m in place.

Voters are also encouraged to BYO pen to the polls this year to reduce any viral spread; and for those still hanging on to their postal votes, these can still be returned before or on Election Day.

Though, for those currently impacted by either quarantine or isolation due to COVID-19, people are being encouraged by both Cabonne Council and the NSW Electoral Commission that votes be cast online where possible, to further reduce the risk of viral transmission in the community.

"To minimise the risks associated with COVID-19 during an election [NSW Electoral Commission is] encouraging electors to vote via postal, online and operator assisted voting (iVote) or a at pre-poll office to reduce the number of people simultaneously attending our voting venues".

The Commission's Media and Campaign Advisor, Cameron Whalan, provided information that said there was no eligibility criteria for early voting using iVote - an electronic voting system online - where the last remaining option that 'does not require in-person attendance for voters that relate to being in quarantine/self-isolation', but voters should still investigate whether they meet another of the criteria.

Applications to vote through the iVote system will be open until 1pm on Saturday, December 4. Voting will need to take place before 6pm on this same date.

Proof of quarantine will need to be provided down the track if people fail to vote on Election Day; and want to avoid having to pay a fine.
