To ensure the safety of the public and property, power was switched off to 2654 customers in East Orange at 12.03pm.
On arrival, crews found a fault on the high voltage electricity network on top of a pole on Spring Street, rather than a fire.
After ensuring it was safe to do so, power was restored to 1626 customers at 12.11pm.
Crews continued to work to progressively restore power to as many customers as possible, however around 110 customers will remain without power until repairs can be completed on Tuesday afternoon.
The cause of the fire is believed to be due to a faulty connection.
A spokeswoman said Essential Energy thanks customers for their understanding as the crews worked to restore power to customers as quickly and safely as possible.
