On Monday Mr Floyd, who works as a technician in logistics and materials handling, was introduced as the party's lead candidate for the December 4 local government election by Member for Orange Phil Donato.
Also on the SSF ticket are Orange tradesmen Antoine Tartak, Luke Brown and Adam Bayliss, homemaker Connie Barbagallo and the daughter of outgoing councillor Sam Romano, hairdresser Julia Romano.
Occupying two seats on council before Cr Mario Previtera died, the retirement of Cr Romano means the party will start from scratch this election but Mr Donato believes Mr Floyd has the profile to gain a seat on December 4.
Mr Floyd, who works for Newcrest, said improving mental health outcomes in Orange is an issue he is passionate about. He said the impact of losing two people he knew to mental health issues, not only on their families but their communities, had left him wanting to do more to improve infrastructure and services.
"Especially when you consider, the drought, the mice plague ..." he said. He has also been working with Mr Donato on the Mr Perfect men's mental health charity.
"My involvement in that charity has really highlighted the importance of mental health and I will be fighting for greater coordination and delivery of mental health services here in Orange," Mr Floyd said.
"It is an issue that all levels of government must take seriously."
A former first grade cricket and soccer player, Mr Floyd moved to Orange from Bathurst about eight years ago to be closer to his teenage daughters and work.
He is also a keen supporter of the proposed mountain bike facility on Mount Canobolas.
"The bike track is going to promote jobs, it's going to promote an environmental impact up on the mount there, it's going to be great for that," he said.
"It's going to give Orange not only a national but an international feel, something similar to Mt Panorama in Bathurst, it will give Orange that world-wide exposure."
He will also work to attract more tourism dollars to the region, encourage council to do more to for employment and steam-line development processes for small business.
Orange's incoming council will have at least five new faces and Mr Floyd said that made it an exciting time to be entering local government.
Mr Donato described Mr Floyd as a local man who understands local issues.
"We have an amazing group of people from all backgrounds ... I couldn't be happier to endorse Glenn and the team," he said.
