Jack Simon Radnedge, of Hill Street, was stopped in Dalton Street and failed a breath test on June 18.
Police noticed his speech was slurred and he was taken to Orange Police Station where he returned a mid-range reading of 0.135 on analysis.
Radnedge told a police officer he drank about six whiskey and cola cans between noon and 6.30pm.
Solicitor Paul Longhurst described Radnedge as a "fine young man" and said he had started the Traffic Offenders Intervention Program.

Magistrate David Day convicted him and placed him on a 12-month Community Correction Order and a 12-month interlock order.
Police had suspended Radnedge from driving since June 18 so Mr Day did not give him a disqualification period but he ordered him to complete the traffic program.
Mr Day said Radnedge had a prior low-range drink-driving offence on his record.
"It's quite a high reading for mid-range," Mr Day said.
