Raymond William Gordon, 34, of Lords Place, was driving a Holden Commodore sedan along Endsleigh Avenue at Glenroi at 5.05pm on April 16, when he was stopped by police.
He produced a P1 driver's licence and although he passed the breath test but tested positive to methylamphetamine.
He was arrested and taken to Orange Police Station for further testing and analysis.
He denied taking drugs and said his drink must have been spiked two days earlier.
The forensic analysis also returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.
Gordon was not present in court for sentencing.
Magistrate David Day said he could proceed without Gordon and convicted him, fined him $660 and disqualified his driver's licence for six months.
"He is someone who likes to drive and do drugs," Mr Day said after reviewing Gordon's traffic record.
"His driving record does not help him, his general record does not help him."
