But the effort shown by the prop was emblematic of a back and forth tussle that saw neither side give up in their Astley Cup Clash.
Dubbo came out fast and furious as they capitalised on some costly errors from the boys in black and the visitors found themselves 16-6 at the half.
The home side made it seem as though a comeback was on the cards, but the college was too strong in the end as they ran out 36-16 winners.
Speaking after the game, O'Malley said the game plan was just to work hard up the middle
"Our goal was to play simple footy with no errors as discipline is huge and just play high percentage footy," he said.
"It's so important because points mean everything and you have to do all you can for your team to try and win the Astley Cup. All points matter so you have to defend hard."
Orange High coach Cam Jones was proud of the effort shown by his boys to stick with it throughout the game.
"I think we gave it a bit of a shot. It ended up running away from us but we hung in there which is always good as every point counts," he said.
"We tried to stick in there and not let Dubbo get much of a lead.
"The kids are pretty lucky to have something like this involved with the school. We spoke about making the most of it and try to make it as easy as possible for the rest of the sports."
Dubbo try scorers were: Zac Williams, Will Cahill, Sion Gordon, Vik Seaton, Nat Lindsay, Lachie O'Malley
Orange try scorers were: Liam Wilson, Jaiden Powyer and Kobe Cantwell
