The girls from Orange High took on Dubbo College in the hockey and ran out big 11-1 winners, thanks in large part to Mellis' hat-trick.
Speaking after the game, the year seven student said "I was pumped. It was nerve-wracking out there but it was great overall and everyone did a great job i thought."
"Everyone is excited and getting into the right mood and the right mindset and it was good to have a win.
"I was shocked because I'm the youngest in the team and one of the youngest in the Astley Cup. It was mind-blowing out there and I felt so supported out there."
She was far from the only one who hit the back of the net with Riley Summerfield (four), Kiana Pakinga (two), Addy Chapman (one) and Ally Cook (one) all having success.
Dubbo were in it for a brief moment when Emily Goedee brought the score to 2-1 early in the game. But it wasn't to be for the visitors as Orange ran home with the huge victory.
Elli Purtell stared for the College and knew it was going to be a tough game.
"It was a bad scoreline but all the girls gave 100 per cent. We're all going to have a laugh now and support the other sports," she said.
"You never give up no matter how long is still on the clock. I believed in the girls that we could keep going, and we did, we just couldn't get it in the back of the net. We had plenty of shots just couldn't execute.
"As soon as we scored I thought we had it in the bag, but things happen."
