The rep soccer side went into the final day of the Western NSW Football Youth League tournament tied on points with Dubbo, but held a crucial ten goal difference in the 'for and against' column.
With their opening match scheduled against a Lithgow side that had allowed 46 goals in its first six games, it looked like the Orange side were in the clear to improve upon the side's third place finish in the under 12s the year prior.
But that is where things got interesting.
Lithgow forfeited the final round, which meant Orange were automatically granted a 3-0 win, a far cry from the 17-0 thumping they inflicted on them in round two.
"If we'd played them again we would've got a bigger game score than the three, which was a bit disappointing," coach Gee said.
"So we knew it was going to be hard because it would come down to goal difference."
Orange took care of business in their final match against Bathurst 3-1 and had to hope that Dubbo didn't beat Mudgee by 13 goals or more if they were to claim the title outright.
It was close, but when the final whistle blew, Dubbo could only amass an 11-0 victory, which meant Orange were this year's winners.
"They are a really good team of boys, so rather than there being a couple of standout players they play very hard together and are a band of brothers as I like to call them," Gee added.
"The boys train very hard, twice a week and were all very happy with their win and happy that they'd put in the effort and got the victory in the end."
The under 13s boys were the only Orange side to finish top of the table in this year's Youth League competition and Gee hopes they will be able to go back-to-back in 2022.
