That's why it proved such a difficult decision to retire as a golf professional.
Furze had worked as the club's pro for the past eight years, but Tuesday marked the end of a career that spanned 49 years, three different states and a lifetime of memories.
"This has been the most enjoyable time I've had in golf and that's a fact. I'm not just saying that for the headlines," he said.
Furze first started his apprenticeship back in 1970, before graduating three years later.
He was the head professional at Devonport Golf Club in Tasmania for eight years and Bankstown Golf Club for another eight before he was courted by the Orange club.
"My son Matthew was the general manager here at the time and the other golf professional left so I'd been up to help him with certain nights here at the club," Furze said.
"I'd got to know certain members of the club, so when the job came up, Matthew asked me if I'd apply for the job."
He said no right away.
"He rang me a week later and I said no again," Furze added.
"He rang me a fortnight later and to shut him up I put my application in and then I withdrew it. The president rang me and I ended up coming up for the interview.
"Within half an hour I'd got the job. I thought I'd give it six months and that came along. Then I thought I'd hang out for another six months and now it's been eight years."
The outgoing pro said it was the people that made the club such a special place to work, and although he would remain in Orange, it was tough to say goodbye.
"It's more of a family atmosphere here. You get the ladies bringing cakes and making meals for me for dinner. It has been the best time in my golfing life," he said.
"In the mornings we get all the golf carts from the big sheds and even when I was doing the karts I was thinking should I re-apply because the people are great. I am very sad about leaving."
A farewell celebration will now be held on Wednesday at the clubhouse, beginning at 5pm for anyone who wishes to give him a send off.
