But, that's the situation Jessie Durning's Trundle Boomers are faced with on Saturday as the green and golds are set to play host to the red hot Manildra Rhinos in round seven.
Led by Group 10 premiership-winning halfback Luke Petrie, the Red V is rolling so far, winning all fives of its contests in brutal fashion.
And while you could make the case the Rhinos haven't played anyone as potent as Trundle yet, Manildra can only beat who's in front of them.
"We've got to be the underdog this weekend," Durning said.
"If you look at the ladder and what's happened so far, we definitely are. But, we enjoy being the underdog.
"I remember in 2019, a journalist picked us to come sixth and we used that as motivation all season."
Sixth place doesn't appear to be on the cards for Trundle this season, but the Boomers certainly have their work cut out for them with the likes of Manildra and Canowindra floating around.
Not only has Luke Petrie been dominant at the Rhinos, so has bulldozing back rower Semisi Tupou.
What makes the Tongan's form even more impressive is that he never played in the middle during his time at CYMS.
"I haven't played in the forwards before but I came here to help Luke [Petrie]," Tupou said.
"We aren't the biggest team but we try to find a way to beat the big boys. We like to push the game quicker and empty their tank.
"So far, so good for us. Luke's plan is working and we're just following what he wants us to do"
He admittedly doesn't know too much about what Trundle brings to the table, but the tales of Adam Hall travel far and wide in this league.
"He's got a good kicking game and he controls things for them," he said.
"Maybe we can try to shut him down."
Kick-off is 3pm at Trundle.
