At about 5pm on Tuesday, traffic was at a stand-still in both directions as emergency services continue to extinguish an on-fire truck in the South Bowenfels area, near Forty Bends Road.
Live Traffic says the fire started at around 2.30pm, however the highway was reopened later that evening after the incident was cleared, with residual traffic dispersing quickly.
The Great Western Highway has been hammered this Easter period, with traffic over the course of the long weekend seemingly at a log-jam for most of the four-day holiday period due to the closure of the Bells Line of Road, which has been shut indefinitely following damage to the area in the wake of the rain event at the end of March.
