Graham Gregory Gersbach, 38, had been riding his bike on Moad Street between 1.30 and 1.40pm on January 15, 2021, when he came to the attention of police because he wasn't wearing a helmet.
After giving Gersbach a verbal warning for not having a helmet, a casual conversation had commenced between the bike rider and the police officers.
"During this conversation the accused spoke about previously being in possession of cannabis while on a train and getting charged," police stated in court documents.
"The accused was asked if he currently had any cannabis or other drugs on him."
Gerbsbach responded by saying, "Yeah, I've got a bud in my pocket". Without being asked, he then reached into the right pocket of his pants and "removed a small amount of cannabis and placed it on the ground".
Gerbsach told police he had paid $20 for the gram of cannabis.
On Monday the 38-year-old failed to appear in Orange Local Court for the offence of possessing a prohibited drug.
Magistrate David Day convicted Gersbach in absence and fined him $330.
