At Tuesday's council meeting a resolution to lobby the state government to undertake upgrades was carried.
State member Phil Donato will take the resolution to parliament.
Councillor Beatty said the residence was "very small" and that over the years little work had been done on it.
In the council agenda papers Cr Beatty said: "I have been advised by the Manildra & District Progress Association that the local Police Station is at present unmanned with little hope of attracting any permanent placement due to poor, run-down and unsafe condition of police station and residence."
He said a police station and residence occupied by a police officer with a family was "best practice", later adding that the challenge was to not only attract an officer but retain them.
Councillor Nash supported the motion, saying Manildra needed to have a police presence.
Councillor Weaver also backed the motion, saying an officer was "imperative" in a town like Manildra where the key business was on the main street.
