Because I have so many trees and shrubs to trim during the year, I recently obtained a second green bin through Orange City Council.
The cost was $90 for the year, and this charge was added to our annual rates bill.
For just over $20 a quarter, I now have the convenience of putting out those two green bins each week and to me that's a great service.
Like many residents, I have two old mattresses taking up valuable space in our garage.
Could a similar scheme be used for a six-monthly mattress collection day by Council?
Residents would contact Council, arrange for the cost to be added to their rates and give all the necessary details. Yes, there's extra red tape, but I can't see why it wouldn't work.
It would have to be better than mattresses being left on footpaths or stored in garages.
What do other towns and cities do about this on-going problem?
