There were only 30 seconds between her and the second-placed Bryce Foley but Kinross swimming gun Mercedes Cornelius-Feltus claimed a supersprint victory at Gosling Creek on Sunday, the 16-year-holding on to claim another win for the Piranhas.
She felt at home as she jumped into the creek but still had two others to pass as she emerged from the water in third position.
After clinging on for a win, she stumbled back to the water as she fought off the urge to vomit.
"I was pretty tired," she laughed.
"This is my second triathlon ever. Butterfly is my speciality.
"I came here to do my best and I did that... and won."
She's been training at Gosling Creek lately and even though she loves the triathlon experience, it won't pull her entirely away from swimming.
"It's kind of the same," she said.
"This feels very good."
Foley was able to claim second place with a time of 29:14, while Luke Hinrichsen clocked 30:29.
Also clocking good times was Millie Hogben (31:31), Tommaso Cornelius-Feltus (31:40) and Liam Bracks (31:48).
