They were among hundreds of people who rushed to the city's testing facilities after it was revealed on Tuesday a Sydney man who tested positive to the virus visited Birdie Noshery & Drinking Est last Sunday.

No positive cases have been recorded in Orange since the incident.

A Western NSW Local Health District spokeswoman said 480 people were tested on Tuesday at the drive-through clinic at the Orange Showground.

"It's the biggest day so far," she said.

Queues formed again when the site re-opened at 8am on Wednesday with 110 people tested in the first two hours.

Testing is also available at the Orange Hospital's fever clinic.

An extra drive-through facility will also open at the Emus Rugby Club site on Woodward Street on Thursday from 8am.

Birdie restaurant co-owner Leah Morphett said on Wednesday all staff had been tested and all bar one, whose result they were waiting on, had been negative.

However, they would need to remain in isolation for 14 days, and be re-tested. The Summer Street restaurant underwent a deep clean on Wednesday.

"It has taken us all morning to do it. We've scrubbed everything," she said.

Ms Morphett said Birdie was allowed to re-open, but they could not do so until staff were allowed out of isolation.

"We won't be opening Birdie at the moment," she said.

Ms Morphett said the restaurant had been following strict COVID-19 protocols.

She said they would continue to allow people from Sydney into the restaurant when they re-opened, provided it was in line with government health restrictions.

"We live in a country where everyone's got rights," Ms Morphett said.

She said staff who had not been at the restaurant during the Sydney man's visit, including herself and co-owner Simonn Hawke, would concentrate on running their other business, Lolli Redini, until Birdie could re-open.

Ms Morphett said they had received positive support from people from as far away as Western Australia.

"We've had some lovely people contact us," she said.

The man who sparked the alert was an 18-year linked to the Berala hotspot in Sydney who had been on a camping trip with friends.

He had visited the Berala BWS bottle shop in December before going on the trip.

Health officials said he would not have been infectious on the trip west due to the virus's incubation period. On the group's return to Sydney they stopped at Broken Hill, Nyngan and Orange.

They sat indoors at Birdie and used the bathroom facilities.

NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant said the man's companions had tested negative, but they would be required to isolate for 14 days and must test negative again "on exit".

Dr Chant urged Orange residents to remain vigilant and get tested at the first sign of any symptoms.

She said anyone who visited Birdie on January 3 between noon and 2pm was "a close contact and must get tested and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result".

The Orange Respiratory clinic at the Bloomfield Medical Centre in Forest Road, is currently closed over the Christmas-New Year period.

The Forest Road clinic, which has been operating for several months, is due to re-open next Monday, January 11. Online booking is required. It will be open on weekdays from 8am-noon and 1pm-5pm.

There were five new cases of COVID-19 in NSW on Tuesday, with one of those found in someone from overseas who was in hotel quarantine. Acting Premier John Barilaro said testing numbers had increased.
