A short time later, the victim came out of the home and was approached by several people in one of the stolen ACT cars, before they drove off in a westerly direction.
An Orange Police spokesman said the only description of those in the stolen car was that of a passenger having their face covered.
"At about 7.10pm that stolen vehicle was involved in a one minute police pursuit with Orange Highway Patrol," the spokesman said.
"That pursuit was terminated and a short time later the stolen vehicle was involved in an accident where the car collided with a tree in Algona Crescent.
"The driver of that vehicle was found near to the vehicle and arrested and taken to Orange Health Service where he was treated for serious injuries.
"As of Monday afternoon, that offender - a 23-year-old Orange man - remains in Orange Health Service under police guard."
Officers are now seeking assistance from the public regarding the stolen vehicle and any other passengers - none of which have been located.
The stolen car which crashed into the tree was a grey Suzuki Baleno.
