The 8-for haul from Charlie Greer, the ruthless declaration at 2-144 and then going for the jugular as stumps on day one approached ... this is the sort of cricket we've come to expect from Cavaliers sides that dominated the BOIDC competition in its first incarnation over a decade ago.

To now have that sort of streak in this crop of Cavaliers, well, that's just plane frightening for the rest of the competition.

After missing out on a chance to claim last year's title due to COVID-19 forcing the grand final's cancellation, you get the feeling Cavaliers are going to leave nothing to chance this summer.

And that's not good news for the other teams in this year's title race.

Ryan Peacock, take a bow. Brad Glasson, you've earned yourself a beer.

But the rest of Rugby Union's batting line-up ... deary me.

Peacock notched up his first ton of the season against Centrals at the Sportsground while Glasson belted 72, the pair putting on a 135-run stand. Together, they scored 172 of Rugby's runs on Saturday.

And the Bulldogs only managed 227, all out.

Sitting in fifth, the Rugby boys had a great chance to secure a big win on the back of two great innings, but having only mustered 227, and with Centrals sitting at 1-60-odd at stumps, is that all in jeopardy now?

Time will tell, but a hand to Peacock and Glasson on Saturday would have gone towards a nearly insurmountable total for Centrals to chase.

Their batters have, collectively, done the job, now it's time to see what the Warriors bowling line-up has this season.

To date, the defending champions have not really been tested, and it's a real shame City's round three clash with Cavaliers was a wash-out.

But after day one of Saturday's second-versus-third clash with St Pat's Old Boys, we'll get a chance to see what the City bowlers can do this summer.

The Warriors are at 9-253 at stumps on day one at Wade Park, and could well bat on a touch if Ed Morrish feels the need on a Wade Park deck that's been conducive to decent totals this year.

It'll then be over to St Pat's to chase it down: Western Zone bat Connor Slattery and skipper Adam Ryan are the key men.

While McGregor, Morrish and Causer will do the Lions' share of the work with the ball for City. Bring on day two.

Without seeing day two, this St Pat's and City clash has shown us looming games between St Pat's and City Colts (round seven) and then Cavs and St Pat's (round eight, just after Christmas) will be enthralling, and will give the Old Boys a chance to really cement themselves as a premiership hope.

Although most will have dreamed of it, few would have enjoyed the kind of day Dan Casey did on Saturday at Loco Oval.

The City Colts allrounder took 3-21 off his six overs to help rout CYMS for 102 in just a tick over 30 overs, then strode out to the middle with willow in hand to smash 103 off 97 balls and take the game away from CYMS in a big way.

Casey has had a torrid time at the crease so far this summer, scoring a pair of sevens and a duck in his three other at-bats.

Casey, though, has been doing his best work with the ball and his 3-for on Saturday continued a decent wicket-taking streak for the seamer, with his total now at 14 wickets for the summer - one behind Hugh Britton.

With Cavaliers' bowling ranks stacked - Charlie Greer returned to take 8-17 on Saturday for the maroons - Casey can certainly surge to claim top-wicket-taker honours this summer with Colts.

Kinross.

The students have battled gallantly this summer, but losing veteran keeper-bat David Hunter to injury last week has put an end to the somewhat slim finals chances Kinross had.

Saturday's shellacking at the hands of Cavs only further dampened that dream for the ninth-placed KWS outfit.
