Two men - aged 30 and 24 - were collected on Lords Place by a 76-year-old cabbie at 12.40am on Saturday morning before the younger of the two men allegedly threatened the driver with a knife and demanded he unlock his mobile phone.
The taxi driver fled the vehicle and ran to the aid of a nearby taxi but was pursued by the 24-year-old for a short distance, before both passengers left the scene.
Officers attached to Central West Police District responded and arrested both men nearby.
Both men were taken to Orange Police Station, where it is alleged the younger man spat on a constable upon entering custody.
It will be further alleged that the younger man was in possession of two knives and a pair of scissors.
He was charged with robbery whilst armed with offensive weapon, assault police and breach of bail.
He was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court on Sunday, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at Orange Local Court on Monday.
The 30-year-old man has been released pending further enquiries.
Investigations continue.
