Mr Day said he sees more domestic violence cases come through the local court in Orange than he did while working as a magistrate in other areas of NSW.
"When I came here on this circuit I was shocked. I had been on the Central Coast for many years," Mr Day said.
"The only thing I will say is weapons were used on the Central Coast ... here it's a punch, shove, disgusting language, and occasionally weapons."
Mr Day made the comments while sentencing a 30-year-old man for intimidating his former partner. The man, who is not named to protect the victim's identity, was at her home in July.
He called her names, made her fear for her safety and said "I'm going to knock your f***ing head off."
Mr Day said punishment and deterrence for the man, and the general public, needed to be taken into account when he sentenced him to three months in jail, back-dated to July 21.
She is entitled to feel safe in the home, she is entitled to feel [safe] in the company of her partner.

In another matter on the same court day, Mr Day sentenced a 44-year-old man to community based custody, by way of a 12-month intensive correction order for intimidating and assaulting his former partner in January.
The man threatened the woman during an argument when when she reached for her phone to call the police and he yelled, "shut your f***ing mouth or I'll break your jaw."
He then struck her on the thigh with a metal curtain rod.
"She is entitled to feel safe in the home, she is entitled to feel [safe] in the company of her partner," Mr Day said.
"He intimidated and assaulted his partner causing actual injuries to her. Then the very next day while on bail he intimidated her thereby contravening an AVO, that caused him to go into custody from [January 24] to [March 11] when he was released on bail because his trial couldn't proceed. While on bail he again contravened a restriction concerning her."
A 29-year-old man received a 12-month ICO, with electronic monitoring, for pushing his pregnant partner over while she was packing to move out in November, 2019. He then punched her as she tried to leave.
A fourth man was given a nine-month ICO and 50 hours of community service. The 24-year-old grabbed his girlfriend around the throat and she punched him in the face making him he let go.
