Months-long operation targeting domestic violence offender to commence

Officers within Western Region will commence Operation Fair Play on October 11 until 5 December 5, focusing on domestic violence.

Operation Fair Play was established in June 2020 to focus on domestic violence in what has been recognised by the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR), as a period with increased instances of domestic violence.

Women and children in NSW are statistically almost 40 per cent more likely to become victims during this period, and where the use of alcohol has also been noted.

The operation will involve an increase in Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders compliance checks to give clear messages that police are monitoring the defendants and their ADVOs, and that domestic violence will not be tolerated.

At the same time there will a focus on the actioning of outstanding warrants on all domestic violence offenders.

Western Region Sponsor for Domestic and Family Violence and New England Police District Commander, Detective Superintendent Steve Laksa, said there is no excuse for abuse.

"NSW Police are vested with the responsibility to ensure victims of domestic violence are protected and Operation Fair Play provides an opportunity for our police to ensure compliance of domestic violence orders, especially those with conditions restricting the consumption of alcohol and contact whilst intoxicated," Det Supt Laksa said.
