Cr Tony Mileto said he was aware of exposed asbestos at the canteen building at Jack Brabham Park.
He has asked Orange City Council staff to undertake a safety audit of all sports grounds and council-owned facilities including the Colour City Caravan Park.
"I don't want to subject any person to the effects of asbestos," he said.
Cr Mileto said he believed it was evident at several sports grounds and facilities.
"I've seen it at the amenities blocks on the east and west sides of Jack Brabham Park," he said.
"Underneath the eaves, it's broken.
"I noticed the same thing at Perry Oval. Also at the Glenroi hockey complex."
And he said asbestos was also inside buildings at Jack Brabham Park and Perry Oval.
Cr Mileto said apart from doing an audit he wanted council to repair any areas where it was broken and exposed.
"Rectify it where it is broken. Potentially it becomes a health issue," he said.
"[We] need to look at all council-owned sporting amenities."
The asbestos issue came to council notice this month when a report recommended the amenities block at Perry Oval be knocked down because it needed major repairs and contained asbestos.
Council was told a previous report, in 2013, had recommended the canteen, changing rooms and toilet block at the ground be locked up and not used as it contained asbestos.
However, current councillors who were on the council back then, said had not seen the report.
